Amos n' Andy began the first and original television situation comedy series in history. Still today all situation comedies are just Amos and Andy re-done. The Amos and Andy Show was first broadcast in 1928 on radio. Created, written and produced by Charles Correll & Freeman Gosden, who were also the original radio voices of Amos and Andy. The radio show was and still is the most popular and longest running radio show in history. To this day, no radio show has ever had higher ratings or a larger audience. The original Amos n’ Andy radio show mainly revolved around Amos n' Andy. When the TV version of Amos and Andy was created, the character “Kingfish” took the leading roll. Despite being the number one show on TV and having a predominately African-American cast portrayed in a positive light (doctors, lawyers, judges, opera singers, millionaires, business owners), a bunch of idiots petitioned to get the show canceled. The reason… they called it racist. With that same thinking The Three Stooges, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, Burns and Allen and countless other should have been canceled for being racist.
